Dermal Fillers
An Overview
Dermal fillers are injectable gels made from various substances, such as hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, and poly-L-lactic acid. Each type of filler serves a specific purpose and can be customized to address individual needs.
How Dermal Fillers Enhance Your Look
-
Add Volume: Fillers can restore lost volume in areas like the cheeks, lips, and under the eyes, providing a fuller, more youthful appearance.
-
Smooth Wrinkles: They effectively reduce the appearance of fine lines and deep wrinkles, particularly around the mouth and nose.
-
Contour the Face: Fillers can redefine facial contours, creating a more balanced and symmetrical look.
-
Enhance Facial Features: They can enhance features such as the lips and cheekbones, offering a subtle but noticeable improvement in overall aesthetics.
Benefits of Dermal Fillers
-
Non-Surgical: Fillers offer a minimally invasive solution with no need for extensive recovery time.
-
Immediate Results: Most people notice a difference immediately after treatment, with results lasting from several months to over a year, depending on the type of filler used.
-
Customizable Treatment: Treatments can be tailored to meet your specific goals and adjust as your needs change over time.
Pre-Treatment Information
-
Avoid blood-thinning medications for one week prior such as Ibuprofen, Aleve, and supplements including St. John’s Wort, Gingko Biloba, primrose oil, garlic, ginseng, and Vitamin E.
-
If you are on a medically indicated blood thinner stay on it, but consult with your provider ahead of time or day of the procedure. You can still have dermal filler injections, however, you will be at higher risk for bleeding and bruising.
-
Do not drink alcoholic beverages on the day of the procedure or 24 hours before.
-
Arrive with a clean face, please wash your face prior to your appointment
-
If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another eruption of cold sores. Please start your anti-viral medication 3 days prior to your injection and let your physician assistant know if you are prone.
-
Do not use dermal fillers if you are pregnant, are allergic to any ingredients, or suffer from neurological disorders.
-
Schedule your dermal filler injection appointment at least 4 weeks prior to a special event, such as a wedding, class reunion, or a vacation to allow for complete healing.
-
Do not schedule any social events for 3-7 days after your injection as you may have bruising and/or swelling lasting this long or longer. You can cover up bruising with makeup.
